  8. SerPrefs is a 100% replacement for the old Serial prefs util,
  9. It has a modern GUI with hotkeys, and extend far beyond
  10. the original's limitations.
  11.  
  12. SerPrefs extends several settings/options of the original,
  13. to do this effectivly a new serial.prefs format have been created.
  14. Currently SerPrefs only support the use of a serial device name,
  15. and Sharedmode. Other extensions will be added later.
  16.  
  17. The new serial.prefs can use prefs by old programs
  18. like the ORIGINAL "Sys:Prefs/Serial" found on the Workbench disks,
  19. and to convert from old to new simply load the old prefs into SerPrefs,
  20. then save it. And that's all you need to do! :-)
  21. Old serial.prefs software will still be able to read the new prefs,
  22. but unable to use the extra information stored.

  24. SerPrefs even show the version of your serial.device,
  25. and have all of the standard prefsmenu items the WB prefs utils have.
  26. Everything is in a single GUI with shortcuts, and is very easy to use.
  27. And you can choose the serial device to use, along with unit number etc.

  29. All normal (plus some extra) baud rates are supported,
  30. along with a buffer range that is more than enough.
  31. It also have separate output/input settings,
  32. for future support or special software.

  34. INSTALLATION
  35. Use the included Installer script, everything is automatic
  36. you only need to chose where to put the documentation.
  37. Even running SerPrefs with the SAVE option is done for you,
  38. so you don't have to start SerPrefs and resave the prefs :-)

  42. o Input and Output Buffer (range 0-64 MB)
  43. o Input and Output Xon/Xoff, RTS/CTS
  44. o Sharedmode, selectable device and unit
  45. o Parity Even/Odd/Mark/Space, 5-32 data bits, 0-2 stop bits
  46. o Makes use of custom prefs/serialprefs icons if found.
  47. o All the functions of the original Serial (and then some ;-)

  62.          this allow overriding ROM devices with disk updates :-)
  63.          Changed the GUI a little, aligned things to retain layout
  64.          a lot better on different resolutions/fonts etc.
  65.          Improved the Install script, it should now be fully Style Guide
  66.          compliant except for deinstallation (next version perhaps?).
  67.          Added a bunch of translations (see translation part of guide).
  68.          Added a link in the guide to the license and shareware files!
